Embryo Transfer

Embryo transfer is a key step in the In Vitro Fertilization (IVF) process, where a healthy embryo is placed into the uterus to achieve pregnancy. This procedure is carefully timed and performed with precision to maximize the chances of successful implantation.

What is Embryo Transfer?

After fertilization in the lab (either through IVF or ICSI), the resulting embryo is monitored for a few days. The healthiest embryo is selected and gently transferred into the woman’s uterus using a thin catheter under ultrasound guidance.

Types of Embryo Transfer:

  • Fresh Embryo Transfer: Embryos are transferred 3–5 days after egg retrieval in the same cycle.

  • Frozen Embryo Transfer (FET): Embryos are cryopreserved and transferred in a future cycle when the uterus is optimally prepared.

The Procedure

  1. Endometrial Preparation: Hormonal medications are given to prepare the uterine lining.

  2. Embryo Selection: The best quality embryo(s) is chosen by our embryologists.

  3. Transfer: A painless, short procedure is done under ultrasound guidance without anesthesia.

  4. Post-Transfer Care: Medications continue to support implantation, and a pregnancy test is done after 10–14 days.
